Saint Valentine is a priest who was beheaded by Emperor Claudius II for helping Christian couples wed.Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage as he thought single men made better soldiers. Valentine felt this was unfair, so he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. When the emperor found out he was thrown in jail and sentenced to death. There, he fell in love with the jailer's daughter and when he was taken to be killed on 14 February he sent her a love letter signed "from your Valentine".
Some believe that Valentine's Day's is celebrated mid-February to mark the anniversary of St Valentine's death.
